In 1 John 4:16, God’s Word tells us that God is love. He loves each of us very much, and He wants the best for us. When we follow His Word, we show Him that we love him back. It shows that we desire to become like Him, and that’s the best thing that any person can ever do.
Ignoring His Word and trying to do things our own way, that’s called a sin. Sin is when we make wrong choices and act in ways that don’t line up with how Jesus would live. And let’s be honest, we all sin, probably every day. The amazing thing is that our Heavenly Father is full of grace and mercy. He never stops loving us, even when we mess up.
Sometimes we may not know that we are sinning against God. This is why His grace is so important. Just because we don’t realize it doesn’t mean it’s not a sin. That’s why, when we pray, we should ask God to forgive us for the wrong things we didn’t even notice, and to help see those things so we can grow.
For example, imagine there’s a school event, and there’s a big bin that’s packed with free t-shirts. The sign clearly says, “Take one.” But instead of taking just one, you take five. You might not think it’s a big deal, and maybe you wouldn’t even call it a sin. But when you think about it, that choice shows selfishness, greed, and ignoring the rules.
Even little choices like that matter to God. He sees everything, even the small stuff, and He wants our hearts to be in the right place.
1 John 1:9 (NLT) says, “But if we confess our sins to Him, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.” That means God is always ready to forgive us, no matter what. But that doesn’t mean we should act like He doesn’t see. Because He does.
So, in conclusion, let’s remember to ask God to forgive even the sins we don’t realize we’re doing. And let’s ask Him to open our eyes to them so we can do better. That’s one way that shows we love God and want to stay close to His heart.
