Proverbs 3:5-6 (NLT) says, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.”
Whether it's something at school, an activity you're attending, or another situation you find yourself in, there may be times when you're in a place or environment that doesn't feel right to you. Maybe you can't explain why you feel uncomfortable, but something about the situation doesn't sit well with you. Sometimes, we brush those feelings off because we don't want to seem different, make a big deal out of something, or leave when everyone else is staying. But it's important to pay attention when something doesn't feel right.
You may wonder why this matters. Well, God can guide us in different ways, and one way He helps us is through the Holy Spirit who lives in those who belong to Christ. Sometimes, you may sense that you need to be cautious about a situation or that it's time to step away. That doesn't mean every uncomfortable feeling is a message from God. Sometimes we feel nervous because we're doing something new or unfamiliar. That's why we need to pray, use wisdom, and pay attention to what's happening around us. We can also talk to an adult we trust because sometimes they can help us understand the situation better.
For example, just a few days ago, I was riding around in a town in my state, stopping at different stores. While we were there, I started having this strange feeling that made me want to leave. I couldn't quite explain it, but I remember thinking, “Maybe God is trying to tell me it's time to go.” I felt uneasy, and I couldn't quite explain, but when we left that area, I began to feel more at ease. The experience reminded me of why it's important to pay attention when something doesn't feel right. And we should always pray for God's guidance, and use wisdom about what to do next.
Hebrews 11:8 (NIV) says, “By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going.”
This verse shows us that Abraham trusted God enough to obey Him, even though he didn't know what was ahead of him. He had to trust God's direction without having all the answers. We can learn from Abraham's example because there may be times when God directs us to make a change, walk away from a situation, or reconsider a relationship. We may not always understand why we need to make a particular decision, but we can pray for wisdom, look at the situation honestly, and seek guidance from God's Word and trusted adults who can help us make wise choices.
In conclusion, don't ignore a situation that makes you feel unsafe or raises concerns. Ask God for wisdom and direction, and remember that you don't have to stay somewhere just because other people expect you to. Learning to recognize when it's time to step away from a person, place, or situation can help protect you from harm. As you learn to trust God and follow His direction, you are also learning to walk by faith and grow in your relationship with Him.
